Visit the Diversity of New York City
Harlem is known for its African American community today. Few, however, realize that its beginning was as a Dutch settlement in the 1700s. In the 1920s, Harlem began its metamorphosis to an African American society. Known for the activism of the 1960s, Harlem is enjoying a renaissance as the community"s brownstone renovations and economic growth open doors for a pleasant ethnic experience upon a visit during a Big Apple vacation. Often ignored in an itinerary, it has become a "must see" of New York City as people visit its churches, nightclubs, restaurants, and museums. There are wonderful tours that enjoy all of these with a variety of schedules available.Brooklyn has tours for Big Apple vacationers to experience it own brownstones. An area full of diversity itself is home to a Middle Eastern section that includes the Famed Jewish Orthodox community of Borough Park. The attractive Caribbean enclave of Crowne Heights, predominately Italian-American Sheepshead Bay, and Russian influence of Brighton Beach all complete diversity unrivalled in the Big Apple.
One more example of New York"s great diversity is the Bronx. Off the beaten track, the Bronx is home to the New York Yankees. When walking the Bronx streets an atmosphere of the real New York is everywhere. After all, as I have been saying, the Big Apple is more than Manhattan alone. The Bronx is home to little Italy, a fine place to sip cappuccino. Visiting the Bronx completes the Big Apple experience sought after by millions of visitors each year.
These are three examples of New York diversity. Harlem offers the opportunity to visit Columbia University, Sugar hill, Abyssinian Baptist Church, The Cotton Club, and the Apollo Theater, to name just a few. Brooklyn has Sheepshead Bay, The Lubavitch congregation, Crowne Heights, and Park Slope among the locations worthy of a visit. Finally the Bronx provides Yankee Stadium, the Botanical Gardens, Bronx Zoo, little Italy, and scenic neighborhoods overlooking the Hudson River. Take the time to venture past the skyline and live New York City the next time you visit. Feel the diversity that is The Big Apple.
