Forget London, Tour The Area Surrounding Stansted Airport
After picking up your car from the hire desk it is easy to jump straight on the link road and the M11 to London. Thaxted itself is famous for another reason as most classical music enthusiasts will be aware. A former resident, Gustav Holst composed "The Planets Suite" while living in the town. One part of the suite and particularly "Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity" has a melody that Holst himself named "Thaxted" after this most beautiful of towns, although the spectacular surrounding countryside also gave the composer inspiration.
Stansted airport also lies close by to Cambridge, once again giving the opportunity to delay your trip to the capital and see this majestic University City. The canals in the city and the punts that traverse them give Cambridge a timeless feel that is hard to find anywhere else in the country. Using your hire car to spend a day in the scholarly paradise is a welcome distraction from the hustle and bustle of the capital.
